Dentures & Partials

Complete & Partial Dentures

Dentures serve as a removable replacement part for missing teeth and the surrounding oral tissues. Depending on how many teeth need to be replaced, the dentist may recommend complete or partial dentures.

What are Complete Dentures?

Complete dentures (also referred to as full dentures) are recommended when it is necessary to remove all natural teeth. Once the teeth are removed, they can be replaced with conventional or immediate dentures.

Patients can begin using conventional dentures eight to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed, while immediate dentures can be used right away. Although immediate dentures do not leave the wearer without teeth during the healing period, they often take more adjustment to get the right fit.

Is There an Alternative to Dentures?

Unless all the teeth are in need of replacement, dental implants may be an option. However, we only recommend dental implants for patients with good oral health.

What are Partial Dentures?

Partial dentures are used when one or more teeth do not need to be removed. Partial dentures are attached to a plastic base (which is usually colored to match the gums) and securely held in place with metal framework.
